Every sneakerhead wants to stand out. It’s not enough to have the latest and best sneaker collection, so you can give yourself the edge by having a cool and edgy lace design that will push the look of your sneakers over the edge.

If you don’t have any stunning lacing designs in your head, don’t worry, here are five excellent ways to lace your shoes and how to do them.

Lattice

Lattice is an excellent lace design for Converse and All-Star low cut shoes. Even though the technique is common in rubber shoes, you can also try it out on low cut sneakers.

  1. Go in and out on the first pair of eyelets. Make sure both ends are equal for the best results.
  2. On the fourth eyelet from the bottom, take either end of the laces and insert them from the outside inwards.
  3. Insert the same lace into the immediate eyelet from the inside, then diagonally cross it all from the outside into the second last eyelet. Then in and out on the very next eyelet on the same side.
  4. Then diagonally across from the outside on the topmost eyelet.
  5. Repeat the same process with the second end of the lace. Just make sure you weave through the diagonal lines made by the first lace for the best results.

Ladder

The ladder works perfectly for all shoes and sneakers. It’s easy to work through, and the result is quite impressive.

  1. Insert one end of the lace in the bottom-most eyelet and out the opposite eyelet. Ensure both ends of the laces are equal.
  2. Insert either end of the lace from the outside, inwards into the eyelet above it. Repeat the same for the other end of the lace. If done properly, you should have a small loop on the exterior of the eyelet.
  3. Take one end and insert it on the loop on the opposite side, then insert it inwards in the eyelet above. Repeat the same process with the other end of the lace and repeat the process to the topmost eyelets.

Checkerboard

You’ve probably seen the checkerboard lacing style around for a while. It never gets old largely because you can add your twist to it by using different contrasting lace colors. It’s also the perfect chance for you to use our collection of fat laces.

When done properly, the checkerboard can upgrade the look of any shoe and sneaker. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Start by going in from the outside on both bottom-most eyelets using the first lace color (preferably fat laces). Ensure both of the laces are equal length.
  2. Take either side of the lace and insert outwards in the next upper eyelets then over and inwards into the opposite eyelet.
  3. Repeat step 2 with the longer end of the lace and keep interchanging until you get to the second-last eyelet.
  4. Take the contrasting lace and weave downwards through the loops. When you get to the bottom, fold the lace and weave it back up again. If you have some space, you can go downwards and upwards again. On most shoes, you should have four columns.
  5. Finally, take the first color of laces and insert the ends outwards into the last eyelet and tuck the laces as you prefer.

For the best results, it’s best to use one fat lace and one regular to give your cool lace design a better and cleaner look.

Zippered

Zippered is a cool and hip lace style that will work for most shoes. If you’re looking to wow with a unique and little known lace style, this is a good trick to pull out of your bag.

  1. Start by going inward on one end and outward on the other end. Make sure both ends of the laces are equal.
  2. Take one end of the laces and loop it over the loop you’ve just made across the tongue then insert the end inwards into the upper, opposite eyelet. Don’t pull the lace all the way and leave a small loop.
  3. Loop back over the eyelet and into the small loop you’ve left and into the opposite upper eyelet. This time around, skip one eyelet.
  4. Keep repeating this procedure with the one lace until you get to the top of the tongue. Repeat the same with the other lace.

X-Factor

Sometimes, simplicity goes a long way, and you’ll agree when you try out the X-factor lace design. It’s not intricate, but it makes your shoes pop and stand out.

  1. Run the lace inwards on one end and out on the other, but make sure it goes under the tongue. One end of the lace should be shorter than the other.
  2. Insert the shorter lace inwards on the opposite, topmost eyelet. The piece left should be just enough for a short overhang.
  3. Take the longer lace and insert the same way as the shorter lace.
  4. Insert the long lace into the lower immediate eyelet outwards, then across and inwards in the opposite eyelet.
  5.  Insert the lace outwards in the lower immediate eye hole, then across to the opposite eyelet. Keep repeating this until you get to the second-last eyelet then tuck the remaining piece under the tongue.

These lacing designs won’t take much time to complete. But they will get everyone to notice your cool sneakers and revamp your look. Try them out. You can check out our diverse collection of lace colors in case you want to try out the designs in different colors.
