The Air Max was first released in 1987. Since then, the cool and casual sneakers have warmed their way into the hearts of men and women with a hip and laidback attitude. Over the years, Nike has followed up with new releases of the sneakers that have become a prized possession for many sneakerheads.

The Air Max sneaker comes in a plethora of colorways which enhances the shoe game of anyone who owns more than a pair of this illustrious sneaker. You could also give the sneaker your personal twist by trying out any of the following Air Max lace styles to spice up your look.

Original Air Max Lacing

This is the easiest Air Max lacing style because it’s already done for you. It comes with the Air Max 90s and a majority of the other models. The sneakers have a standard crossover pattern through the 5th eyelet. The lace is then tucked back into the sneaker.

For most people, it doesn’t last. But if you would like to retrace your roots and try it out again, we recommend going with any of our flat laces. You can choose to go with a color that blends in with the color of the sneaker or opt for a contrast. Any will give excellent results.

Over the top “Crossover” Lacing, Loose and Untied

This is a simple but elegant lacing style. It involves following a crossover pattern, going over the top of the eyelet. Leave the laces between the eyelets loose such that you only have the tips hanging off the side at the top eyelet.

This look is incredible when paired with our gold metal tip laces that add elegance and color to your look. Sneakerheads that prefer the untied look will love this.

Skip an eyelet “Crossover” Lacing

This is a simple lace style for a simple look. In this crossover method, you skip an eyelet each time you go up. Once done, the style gives the sneaker a more open look and less cluttered.

This style works great if you have loud laces that you don’t want to overpower the rest of your look and the shoe, and it’s also perfect if you have shorter laces that you want to work. We recommend going with our flat laces, preferably those with a contrasting color to the shoe, to give the laces just enough relevance without overpowering the shoe.

Straight Across “Bar” Lacing, Untied

This is a neat style that you can whip up pretty fast. For the best results, go for our rope laces. Stripped or spotted options come highly recommended for this lace style. Depending on the color of the shoe, you can go for a mix and match or a blending color. We don’t recommend going for a contrasting color for this lace style because the whole idea is to blend in to maintain simplicity. Not to stick out.

Keep in mind the lace tips end up inside the sneaker when using this style. If you don’t like the ends sticking out, but you still love your sneakers untied, this is an excellent alternative.

If you’re feeling a little adventurous and want to step out of your comfort zone, you can also try the same style using rope laces that have a more vibrant color. Better yet, pair dull-colored sneakers with brighter laces to add some life to the appearance of the sneaker.

You can try out unlimited combinations depending on the type of Air Max sneaker you have, its color, and your creativity. Don’t let anything hold you back.

Over the Top “Crossover” Lacing (Laces Tied)

If you must have your sneakers tied, this is the lace style for you. The style follows the same standard crossover pattern, but inside of the tips going inside the shoe, you loop the laces up and out the top eyelids.

Because you intend to tie the laces into a bow, you need to get slightly longer laces than you would 6 eyelet sneakers like the Air Max.

For this design, 0ur flat laces are the best. They lay nicely on the tongue of the shoe, creating a clean and organized looked once the laces are tightened.

Over the Top Crossover Lacing “Bun,” Knotted

This is one of the best lace designs for Air Max sneakers because it showcases the gold tip aglets with the Loop King logo perfectly.

The laces go over the eyelets instead of under. Once at the top eyelet, instead of tying the excess laces into a bow, loop them into a ‘bun knot.’ It keeps the shoe firmly in place while showing off the stylish laces and aglets. We find that the rope laces work perfectly for this style. You can also try our leather laces for a bolder and more casual look if you’re going out with friends to a party and want to be the center of attention.

Bring your Air Max sneakers out to play with these excellent lace styles. We have just the collection of flat, rope, and leather laces that will inject new life into your sneakers and complete your look! With so many colors to choose from, you can have dozens of looks for each of your Air Max sneakers.
